Edward Joseph Schroeder was born to the late Ann Pazdernik Schroeder and Edward J. Schroeder, Sr. on July 3, 1933, St. Louis, Mo.
Ed graduated from St. Mary’s High School, and studied mechanical engineering at Washington University night school after a neighbor saw his potential and helped him enroll. Ed married Mary Kubiak Schroeder in 1983 for 42 years of adventure.
Ed was a mechanical engineer and tool designer for Knight Machine Co, Emerson Electric and McDonnell Douglas/Boeing. He retired in 2002 and had one of the funniest retirement ceremonies ever. After all, Ed was a man who loved to make people laugh.
Ed was a member of the Czech Culture Club, Friends of Tower Grove Park, Missouri Botanical Garden, Mo. Numismatic Society and Drama Club of Friendship Village (who could forget his Clark Gable impression and Rodney Dangerfield routine.)
He enjoyed going to Grant’s Farm and TG Park and MOBOT. He loved playing Santa for the Grand South Grand Businesses. He was proud to live in his grandparents’ home in south St. Louis for 60 years. He became an avid traveler and cruiser in his later years, even visiting his grandparents’ village in the Czech Republic.
Ed is survived by his wife Mary, sons Tom (Peggy) and Don, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held in Sept., time and place to be determined.
“Here’s looking at you, kid.”
