It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary Lee Ellis, who died on March 14, 2026 after a courageous battle with illness. Gary celebrated his 77th birthday on February 1, 2026. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri on February 1, 1949. His parents were Archie L. Ellis and Hazel M. Ellis (Davis).
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Archie L. Ellis and his mother, Hazel M. Ellis.
Gary married Katherine S. Ellis (Cobble) on January 11, 1969 before he left for Vietnam.
He served in the U.S. Marines from 1968 to 1971.
Gary's children: Kimberly K.Ellis - Michael O'Hanlon, Zachary S. Ellis - Laura N. Ellis, Joseph K. Ellis - Hannah G. Ellis.
Grandchildren: Emily L. Grau - Seth Dryer, Terry A. Grau - Megan Partney, Joseph D. Westhoelter - Hannah Westhoelter, Haley M. Ellis, William J. Ellis, Railyn M. Garrett, Gavin C. Weber, Kendall D. Ellis, Dominic A. Ellis.
Great-Grandchildren: Matthew M. Grau, Kai L. Ellis, Clara J. Westhoelter, Taitum P. Weber, Levi J. Grau, Justin Grau, Jayda Grau, Isabella Grau.
Sisters-In-Law: Sharon Ponciroli, Carol Hummel.
Nephews: John Jackson, John Hummel, Josh Ponciroli.
Nieces: Dawn Hummel, Holly Hummel.
Several cousins that he dearly loved. Friends that were with him to the end were David Halleman, Kristen Garrett, and Jon Ronden.
Gary was know for his warm smile. He had a gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued. His kindness and generousity touched countless lives.
The family wishes to thank the nurses on the 12th floor, West Tower at Barnes Hospital for the loving care the gave Gary. We will never forget you and your kindness.
He will be laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
