It is with great sadness that the family of Kim Garecht-Smith announces her passing.
Kim passed away on June 28, 2026, with her family by her side after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's.
Kim was born on August 3, 1956, in Springfield, Illinois. She graduated from Lanphier High School in 1974 and put herself through nursing school while raising two daughters on her own.
She dedicated many years of her life to caring for others as a registered nurse. Her determination, strength, and unwavering love for her family were evident throughout her life.
She enjoyed gardening, riding horses, and cooking amazing meals for her loved ones. But what she loved most was spending time with her grandchildren, who lovingly called her "Nana."
Kim is survived by her daughters, Shannon (Mike) Haney and Amy Bolletto; her stepchildren, Josh (Erin) Smith and Kristin Smith; her grandchildren, Avery and Nathan Haney, Hailey (Jake) Pursell, David and Jacob Bolletto, Sawyer and Marley Smith, and Jackson and Emilee Kern; her three great-grandchildren, Daniel, James, and Stevie Pursell; her siblings, Karen (Bruce) Harmening, Harvey (Carol) Garecht Jr., Andrew (Tricia) Garecht, and Kitty (Don) Donath; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Kim was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Smith, and her parents, Betty (Robinson)Stoeppler and Harvey Garecht Sr.
Kim will be remembered as a strong, funny, stubborn, caring, and supportive mom, sister, aunt, and Nana who fiercely loved her family.
A celebration of Kim's life will be held at a later date.
