Mary Ellen Doss, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this life on February
17, 2025, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born on January 17, 1944, in Trebloc, Mississippi, to
her loving parents, Charles and Augusta Doss, who preceded her in death. As the eldest of four
children, Mary grew up in Centerville, Illinois, before making St. Louis her home.
Mary was a proud graduate of Cahokia High School, Class of 1962, and later attended the
Mildred Louise Business College in East St. Louis, Illinois. With determination and skill, she
pursued a career in secretarial work, holding positions in both East St. Louis and St. Louis.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Mary found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She had a
deep appreciation for the outdoors and often found peace in the beauty of Forest Park. A lifelong
lover of books, she cherished reading, and music filled her heart with happiness.
Mary had a giving spirit, dedicating her time to volunteer work at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and
the United Negro College Fund in St. Louis. Her dedication and kindness were recognized when
she was offered employment at Pilgrim Temple Missionary Church in East St. Louis. She also
worked at Pope’s Cafeteria and Mitch Murch Maintenance Services earlier in her career.
Above all, Mary’s greatest love was her family. She leaves behind her devoted son, Antoine
Terrell Doss of St. Louis, and her cherished brothers: Charles Doss of Alabama, Carl Doss of
Missouri, and Joe Doss of Florida. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
and dear friends who will forever hold her memory close in their hearts.
Mary’s life was one of kindness, strength, and quiet grace. Her warm spirit and unwavering love
will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May she rest in eternal peace.
