Michael "Mike" Jones Obituary

Michael Leslie Jones, 78, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2026, at Parc Provence Memory Care Facility after a lengthy illness.

Mike was born Nov. 4, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo., the first child of the late Leslie Robert and Louise Marie (nee Basile) Jones. Affectionately known as “Mickey” in his childhood, Mike was a bright child who excelled at school. He graduated in 1965 from Hazelwood High School, and he earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and a master’s degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Mike tried his hand at a few careers, including print journalism, before finding his niche in computer science. For many years, he was an information technology consultant with St. Louis  companies including Bi-State Development Agency.

With a love for learning new things, Mike often immersed himself in the details of his areas of interest. After his retirement, he developed a passion for yoga and briefly served as a yoga teacher. Later in life, he also became interested in sport shooting.

Mike was a loving father and grandfather and a kind and devoted son. He had a quiet, thoughtful presence and often demonstrated a wry sense of humor.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by: son Brian M. (Rebecca) Jones, Mount Pleasant, S.C.; grandson Remi Jones; step-grandson Jake Miller; brother Thomas R. (Nancy) Jones, St. Peters, Mo.; sisters Nancy (Richard) Kettenbrink, Arnold, Mo., and Pamela (James) Freeman, Troy, Mo.; and four nieces and nephews.
