Robert "Bob" Hines Obituary

Robert Anthony Paul Hines (1956-2025)

Robert (Bob) Anthony Paul Hines surrendered himself in the fight against Alzheimer's Disease on February 2, 2025, with his children at his side.

Bob was born in Easton, Pennsylvania on January 3, 1956, to Leonard Hines, Sr. & Dorothy (Reese) Hines. Bob spent his childhood years in the age before smart technology, where phones rotate dialed, and television was black and white. He often spoke of his times as an active outdoor child, playing sports and breaking his arm swinging through the trees like Tarzan.

Bob attended Lehigh University, it was during this time he met and married his wife Patricia (Stoner) Hines of 43 years until her sudden passing in 2021. His first career role as a yard master with the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Eventually merging with Union Pacific, the railroad brought a lifetime of exciting opportunities and frequent changes in scenery. Throughout their marriage, the railroad relocated Bob and Pat from Pennsylvania to Arkansas, Missouri, Texas, California, back to Missouri, Washington, Oregon, Nebraska, back to Texas, and finally back to Nebraska where Bob retired in 2015.

Bob was a devoted and loving father to Erin (Hines) Nashalook and Ryan Hines, who are already missing his life lessons and the world experiences he provided for them. He took pride in watching their greatest successes, often telling anyone who would listen about his Nebraska University D1 left-handed pitching son and his Saint Louis University D1 swimming daughter who gave him the opportunity to travel the states visiting some of the greatest universities such as Notre Dame.

When travel did not involve sports, Bob and Pat, along with many various family and friends, were seen traveling the world by land, air, and sea to check off many of his bucket list experiences such as having a beer at Oktoberfest in Germany, scuba diving with the whale sharks in Honduras, and chasing but never quite getting a glimpse of the Northern Lights in various hot spot locations. Bob was blessed to have three amazing grand-girls and loved being a grandpa. He enjoyed playing his classic “Toe- Knee-Chest-Nut”

game, reading them stories, and of course teaching them the proper dunking techniques for cookies with milk. His love and pride for his family was felt by all.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife (Patricia Hines), brother-in-law (Thomas Dicker Sr.), sister (Dorothy Dicker), brother-in-law (George Muretta), brother (Leonard Hines Jr.), mother (Dorothy Hines), father (Leonard Hines Sr.).

Bob is survived by his daughter (Erin Nashalook) and her husband (David Nashalook) and Erin's daughters (Gracie and Gabrielle Hartman), his son (Ryan Hines) and his wife (Nichole Hines) and their daughter (Kierstin Hines), his sister (Margaret Muretta), his nieces and nephews (Susan Hubbard, Angel Baratta, David Muretta, Thomas Dicker Jr.), his mother-in-law (Grace Stoner), and of course his beloved dog (Gizmo).
